Hi,
I'm Coach Jace, I have been asked to explain the basics of football for first time players as well as the the "Six A Side" game of football. If you already know some or most of this stuff great! If you don't I hope I don't confuse you.

"Vince Lombardi" has many quotes and this is my favorite:
"Some people try to find things in this game that don't exist but football is only two things "- "blocking and tackling"
Blocking and Tackling are are the two most important things every football player needs to know how to do properly and safely. These skills are part of every play and when done with success it will result in "Points" or " No Points". They will most likely be two of the first skills taught to you by your coaches.
Its a common assumption that a defensive player isn't required to know how to block or a offensive player to tackle. Not true! If the offense fumbles the ball and the defense recovers it then in a split second all the offense will become defense and will have to tackle the ball carrier to prevent poor field position or even a touch down. Same as if the defense recovers the ball on a fumble the defense will have the block to get better field position or a touchdown.
Blocking:
Using the skills and techniques you will be taught, your job is to block the defender who's job is to tackle the ball carrier or your Quarterback. There are many different types of blocking: Such as "Drive Block", "Run Block", "Pass Block" etc. All players on the offense have to block: Linemen, Running backs, Receivers, and some plays even the Quarterback will block.
Tackling:
Again, using the skills and techniques you will be taught, your job as a tackler will be to bring the ball carrier to the ground safely and quickly. There are many different locations on the field that you will have to tackle your opponent: on the sideline, in the backfield or in a "gap" on the line of scrimmage. In all of these instances the proper technique is important for your safety and the safety of you opponent. "All" Players have to Tackle on defense!

Offense, Defense, Scoring and a few rules for the Six A side Every football team has two units with in it, an Offense and Defense.
The offensive role is to score points by moving the ball across the opposing teams goal line scoring a Touchdown (6 points) or kicking a field-goal (3 points). The field of play will be 45 yards long, teams will start on the 45 yard line and work their way to the goal line. At the start of the series the offense will get three chances to move the ball 10 yards each attempt is called a "Down" (this will be marked out by what are called "yard sticks & downs box". If the offense moves the ball past the 10 yard mark then the process starts all over until either a "first down" is not achieved or a touchdown or field goal is scored. After a touchdown the offense may kick a convert for a single point. Two point conversions by running the or passing the ball are not allowed in this league. Each time the offense is on the field it is called a "Offensive series"

The next series will be the "defensive series". The defense's role is to prevent the opposition's offense from achieving a first down or 10 yards in 3 "downs" however the defense can recover a fumble or intercept a pass and run it to the 45 yard line for a touchdown. There is no score (safety) if the offense is tackled between the 45 and 55 yard line however a recovered fumble in between the 45 and 55 will be counted as a touchdown. If the oppositions offense scores a touch down and is attempting a "convert" the defense may leave the field as there is no "rushing" allowed on a convert attempt, this is the same for a field goal. The intention is to encourage teams to develop a kicking game. If the ball touches the ground at any time during the attempt it will be blown dead.
